So, I have a friend who has a “throwing” tendency when she gets upset – i.e. throws cell phone, throws shoes, throws paper clips, miscellaneous objects…you get the idea. I need some help coming up with a stress relief exercise of sorts (such as a punching bag, treadmill, shooting clay pigeons, doing 100,000 sit-ups) that would make use of her throwing tendencies in a safe and non damaging way to relieve stress. Throwing plates at the wall, for example, is not an option. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, throwing pillows against a bed or a wall. She can slam it really hard and it doesn’t damage anything. Here is one youtube movie that shows exactely that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDzZou3rH…
Try having her hit a pillow when she gets mad, a stress relief ball, meditation, or baseball. Get her a ball that is soft enough so that it won’t break anything when you throw it but heavy enough that she feels like she’s throwing something. Have her through that ball against a wall and she should calm down.
Write a letter to who ever is causing your stress. Write exactly how you feel. Once you are finished or you feel relaxed, tear it up and throw it away. You just released your stress without hurting the other person’s feelings.
Plan a “me” time everyday, even if it is for five minutes. Schedule it in your day planner as if it were some kind of appointment.
Volunteer. Sometimes by helping others less fortunate than you will make you realize that particular stress is not worth it.
Vent to someone you trust. Sometimes all you need is a listening ear.

How about hair ties? Girls wear them around their wrists all the time, and they’re so tiny, they wouldn’t hurt anyone if she threw a couple a the ground.
She may want to buy them in bulk, though, because they’re easily lost even when you’re NOT throwing them around.
Bowling. It is a lot of fun too.
Or give her a boomerang. hehehehehe
And what about some online game that involves throwing.
