I have always been a contractor or unemployed in the past and I find it hard. Hard because there is no end and also because I got used to my unemployed mindset (unemployment between contracts) where I had long holidays…
I am not a lazy person but have made the wrong choices in my life because of a lack of objectives, I guess.
Besides, I have problems with one of the managers and 4 other employees sent negative feedback for my end-year review – I did not sign this document yet because I disagree.
Time spent on travel (4 to 5h a day to come to work-both ways) is starting to take its toll and I hardly have a private life. Weekends are spent relaxing/recovering. I come home at 8:30pm every day.
During the last 2 weeks, I felt stressed because of the situation with the manager (the management structure is unusual in this company as many managers can manage you!) and also because I am scared about my future with this company. I am 35. This is mainly due to the

i have health care experience and like working with people, but am a little nervous about the stress of a nursing career. if i got my BSN in nursing, my goal would be to work 1-2 years in ICU or a intensive care unit and then apply to grad school to get my Masters and become a CRNA (nurse anesthetist). i know CRNA’s typically work somewhat good/regular family hours (mostly M-F days, in the OR, with some occassional weekend call or coverage), they are a specialty who are very detail oriented, and typically make a great salary (avg. starting salary $115,000-150,000 depending on location). i have read about the intensity of CRNA school (very stressful)…! i am a great student, so i know i could do (already have done a health care field)… but i am worried about the stress of the schooling, job, etc… i don’t think i would want to be just an RN… if i get my BSN in nursing, i would want to get my CRNA and not practice as an RN (longer than I had to..)
or… my other career option is with computers… I am thinking a network/systems engineer/administrator… make an average of $50,000-$90,000, depending on your level of management and where you work… work mostly M-F schedule, but sometimes take weekend call/pager duty if the network goes down/has problems… im not really interested in computer programming (although i do know a little, i wouldnt want to do it everyday, all day)..
i want a job that supports myself and a family well, allows for time to vacation and enjoy my life at home, and isn’t sooo stressful that i “burn out” quickly…. i want a career that i enjoy, but that i can also “leave at the office” when i go home…
i am torn, i know CRNA would set me up better financially and i would easily find a job… but im am deterred by the amount of schooling and stress of getting there…
i already have my BS, i would just need to go back and get an accelerated BSN (about 15 months)… then work as an RN a few years, then a 28 month grad program for CRNA…
OR… just go get an associates in computer technology and get a job as a network/systems administrator and work my way up….
i like both things, so im not sure which is best….

I work in an office (union shop).I am having an issue with a female co-worker, here is a brief history.
We started working together in 1994, in 1998 she took me to the labour board claiming I applied for a job I did not want. The labour board dismissed all charges found I did nothing wrong.
2004 she claimed I went into the computer system an changed some of her work, while I was temporarily assigned to other duties. After an investigation it was concluded I did nothing wrong.
2006 she lost her job to a senior employee an was forced to move to another location. She fought this an wrote numerous letters to both union and management claiming;I subjected her and her family to 9 years of emotional and mental stress. I treated her like garbage for this period and my treatment could lead to heart attack nervous breakown or worse and she had a tremendous fear of me.Management, union and human resorces again concluded I had done nothing wrong an she was forced to move to her new location.
Forward to 2009 an opening became available and she returned working 8 feet from me. I have requested to maanagement they relocate one of us to another place in the building. They are balking at this claiming there is no place to put one of us. I disagree there is a spot but they refuse to acknowlege this.
Temporarily they have assigned me to other duties and have said this could become full-time if I go back to school and upgrade my qualifications. I did hold this posistion from 1988-1992 but was bumped out by senior employee’s. Since that time the qualificatons have changed (although I have filled this job the last 8 summers) and I am required to go back to school. That is an issue as night school does not work because of obligations with my children and their after school activites. (My wife does not get home in time to take them).
So my two questions are;
1. Am I wrong to want this co-worker and I to be separted and not to have to work so close together?
2. If I do go to school should I push to take the courses during regular work hours (day time) with no loss in pay?
Thank You

I am currently working a job where I received a write-up. I am in a management trainee program and I know that I am not going to stick with the company for a long period of time. I feel to ,being brutally honest, that my boss is biased against me and my boss constantly talks to me in a condescending manner, yells at me, and degrades me in front of the people I am supposed to manage. I am in a industry that is very customer service oriented and requires customers yelling at me and I also get yelled at when I try to seek answers to some of the questions I try to ask of management. I used to love my job but now I am so stressed out at work that unfortunately the stress I bring home and around my loved ones has had detrimental affects on my personal relationships (i.e my significant other, my family, and friends). This amongst other things has not only affected my perceptions on the job, but also has allowed me to develop a pessimistic outlook on my personal life.
I have the next three days off, but as much as I don’t want to quit for the sake of some of the people whom depend on me at work, I feel extremely uncomfortable at work where everyday I get more and more stressed. What should i do? I want to be professional and give two weeks notice, but with the amount of stress I get, I want to to leave today but also want to try to minimize the damage I cause. I feel as if I am trying to weigh the pro’s and con’s between whats best for me personally and whats best for me professionally.

in 2004 i purchased a house for 250K putting down roughly 50K. It’s a two family and i lived in it for 2 years and then moved. It seems that on average i make $500 per month in rent as it seems i’m constantly pouring money into it. (it’s over 100 years old). I moved 1000 Miles away in 2005 and it causes me a fair amount of stress. I can rent both units for 1350 (after management company) but it seems i never have both units filled! It’s frustrating because i so rarely get rent checks and it eats a lot of money per month (roughly 1750). i wrote off about 13K in losses last year.
So…What should i be willing to sell my house for (i think it’s a simple NPV equation, but i’m not confident in my answer). (by the way, the house has seemingly depreciated over this time period). Last note, although it shouldn’t matter, i’m fairly young and used part of an inheritance when i was 24 to purchase this. (thought it was a smart move at the time, didn’t anticipate leaving). Thank you!!

I’m 21 and still living at home and I want to move out. I can’t live with any of my friends because, frankly, I can’t stand the way that they live. My job is preventing this and the only way I can get a new job is to get my car fixed as there is no place on the bus line that is close enough to walk home from if I miss the last bus of the night and my current non-diploma, high school failure, not drop out, status is currently preventing me from getting any of the better jobs that are on the bus line. I work in a McDonald’s that is only a 30 minute walk from home. If I go into management at my work, I should make enough to get my car fixed, which in turn will allow me to get a new job. The only problem is, I’ve been working at a McDonald’s for the past 5 years and have never had any direct interaction with the customers, I work in the back, “flippin’ burgers,” if you will. The stress in the back is bad enough, but I’ve seen what being a manager at that McDonald’s does to a person. So, I have two question: should I go into management, until I get my GED, to get my car fixed? If I do choose to go into management, how would I mentally prepare myself for the stress that is to come?
If there is any confusing parts of this, I apologize, I went through and added stuff that I forgot to include into places where I thought seemed appropriate.
Thank you for your help, any answers relative to my questions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a job interview with a bank tomorrow. I’ve been working nightshift in a supermarket and feel Ive been the victim of bullying by management. Hence, why Ive been signed off with stress for the past 3 weeks. Should I be honest with the bank or should I maybe put the absence down to a bad back due to the physical nature of the job? A friend told me not to mention stress/depression as it doesnt look good. Bearing in mind, I’m pretty sure that my current employer cannot divulge the reasons surrounding my absence to the bank in a reference, but only the number of sick days.
