I Need To Leave My Stressful Job Due To Major Health Concerns But…?

Posted by admin | Stress Management | Monday 18 January 2010 10:13 pm

…but I only have 4 months at this job. I know, 4 months may seem like nothing, but my health has recently become a major issue. I have had stress problems in the past, that’s one reason why I developed problems so quickly. But never have I had a job like this: 45 hours a week minimum, an office team of 4 handling over 1,200 clients with that number growing rapidly everyday, angry clients complaining everyday for not being processed quickly enough (we try desperately), not being able to meet those clients’ needs due to massive amounts of tasked constantly being thrown at us with many many short deadlines, and worst of all, a management that puts us at fault for any failure (even if the clients were at fault). I even try to go to school at nights but my grades have suffered due to exhaustion. I have tried “bucking it up”, but then I started feeling tightness in my chest. When I tried to confront a manger on this, he said, “Try and relax, we don’t want you to be a liability for us.” It’s only going to get worse as the management pressures us to perform better because they strongly believe that we have enough time and staff to fulfill all of our task and a lot more (I’m sure they are just saying that so they won’t have to hire more staff due to $, even though the company is rich). Also I get a lot of pressure from external forces telling me, “That’s life”, “Just deal with it” and “At least you have a job.” Yeah, I get that, but is it really worth my health? I like my job, just wish I wasn’t doing the job of 5 people. I really need to quit before I get hauled away in a stretcher, but with only 4 months on the job, I’m afraid nobody else will want me due to “lack of commitment to a job”. What can I possibly do to help my situation? Is there any hope for me?

A Question About Alcohol For Health Reasons?

Posted by admin | Stress Management | Thursday 31 December 2009 10:36 am

It’s more to help my body deal with stress and for pain management since my doctor can’t find any serious illness but I have some kind of peripheral neuropathy where he doesn’t think any medication will really make a difference and that it is job related – but I can’t quit the job – and there’s nothing for me to switch to right now.

Is Feminism Bad For Your Health?

Posted by admin | Stress Management | Saturday 14 November 2009 4:26 am

As compared to men, women have historically spent more time with their families, worked few hours, suffered less job related stress, enjoyed better health longer, AND lived longer.
But, that trend is changing, especially in countries where feminism has (largely) eliminated traditional gender roles.
Women are spending more time working, are more often in senior management positions, are under increased work related stress, and are thus spending less time with their families (can’t be in two places at once).
Does this promote better health and well being for women (and men)?
Note the below findings from Sweden (the global leader in gender role androgeny).http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/health_…
What do you think?

Master Social Work And Educating The Public Re: Health Issues?

Posted by admin | Stress Management | Sunday 18 October 2009 4:18 am

I was accepted into a MSW program. There are many areas of social work that interest me: public health SW, mental health counseling, EAP counseling, and teaching SW at the post secondary level. I would also like to educate the public about various mental health topics – including stress management, compulsive eating, sleep disorders, pain management, and overcoming anxiety and depression. What kinds of settings and/or positions would allow me to educate the public about healthcare/mental health issues? Also, I prefer not to work with the severely mentally ill – I would prefer to work with people who are more stable – what settings would you recommend? Once I become more experienced, I would also like to have my own clinical social work practice. What’s the best way to get started? I would like to teach social work at the college level; would I be able to do that with a Masters? SW is a very varied field; how can I learn about all the opportunies available? (Is there a good book, etc.)
