Learn to separate issues that you have control over and those you don't. Make a list.
Change, fix, or eliminate the one's you can. They can't affect you when they are gone.

Look at your "NO Control" list and decide if they are worth the worry or stress. If you can't control the outcome quit wasting your energy with worry. "What ifs" will cause you to fail by concentrating on 'negative' outcomes. Alcohol/drugs will NOT make any changes in what YOU have NO CONTROL over.

Learn to accept that things can and do go wrong-use as a tool to prevent again-not as a forcast of failure.

Focus on what IS working right and why-you will gain some positive feelings toward yourself and give you confidence in your ability to stay in control and handle issues in a better way.

You can get some books on Transcendental Meditation.

You can take a local class on Yoga.

I have found both to be great for managing stress.

Also, just a vigorous workout ... weights, running/walking.

As a high anxiety person, Walking around the marina is very soothing and gives you the beauty of nature, which is also very soothing. It changes the big picture ( if only for a while) you kinda sound tense, a walk can do wonders if you look at everything. And remember to breathe in through through your nose and exhale through the mouth
