I work as a manager at Asian-style buffet store in mall food court. Of course, the work is challenging because of the competition. The food court has total of 4 Asian-style food stores (Two Chinese stores are under one management and the other one is Japanese Sakui). Although, two Chinese stores were right next to mine, I didn’t have that much of problems because my store had a different concept (buffet) than the others. One day, they went under construction, and reopened with exactly same concept as ours (BUFFET style, the same price, same kind of food). Since then, I‘ve been dealing with stresses every single day; the way the store is next to us, we easily ‘lose’ customers because they yell out the price, etc. After numerous problem complains, the mall management set up food court guidelines. Unfortunately, the Chinese stores are not following them (They would ONLY if the security guards come by). Therefore, I started stressing these problems to the mall management, but I feel noth

The biggest problem with running a business is the competition. You have to better them. How can you do that?
Do the competition offer an “all you can eat” buffet or is it a matter of choose your entree and then that is that? You may consider “all you can eat”.
Offer something free. Free drink if it isn’t included, or offer a larger drink, larger plates, service larger portions in a togo box so the people can take it with them rather than throwing it away.
Advertise with $1 off a meal or something.
Talk to your local SBA and see if they have any ideas to beat the competition.
Your city probably does restaurant ratings. Is yours better than your competition? Can you offer healthier food?
Get the local paper to do a review and get a write up.
There is a lot of free publicity out there.
Good luck.
I think it is a waste of time complaining to the mall management. They are not taking actions cause it will not afect their business.
You should think of a way to defeat yr competitor. They shouted out the price to get customers and probably you can ask one of the staff to stand in-fornt of counter and serve free tester for your customer.
Good luck
