Is This Micro Management?

I work for a long term managed care provider. We always had a 1800 line , where the member’s could call if they had an emergency or if they could not get in touch with the people they usually speak to. We recently started this new “call center” were all of the calls are logged, if they are answered, not answered. etc . The problem is that now they are starting to beat us down because of this new system. For example if we put the phone on ” not ready ” they want to know why we stepped away from our desk , even if its to go to the bathroom. Even if we clock in to work on time , if we don’t log in on the phone its like we came in late. If our regular line rings , and the call que rings they want us to drop our regular line and answer the que. Many people are starting to say that they are micromanaging us. Is this true. We are all in 1199 union , and we would like to bring this up to the delegate , because we are now becoming stressed with all of these rules? what do u think ?

I’m not sure it’s micro management, but it is certainly a major change in job expectations. Since you are in a union, this is definitely an issue that should be brought up. Does your contract specify the detailed monitoring that is now going on? After all, you should be able to take a bathroom break without having to report it to everyone in management.
