It is not the mantra itself that makes transcending effortless and with ease, it's the inherent inbuildt desire for more and more peace and happiness that makes the TM method effektive. So if NSR is based on this premis it works as well as TM does...

I have not tried NSR because I learned the Transcendental Meditation technique 19 years ago. In my opinion one the reasons why people have such good success with the Transcendental Meditation technique is because of the thoughtful and exacting way in which it is taught. Everyone is taught by a highly trained, qualified teacher. It may be simple and natural, but it is also subtle. For me trying to learn meditation form a book or a tape didn’t work. I never knew whether I was doing it correctly, I wasn’t experiencing any benefits and just felt lost in my thoughts. How many people do you know who learned meditation from a book or a CD and actually do their practice on a consistent daily basis?

I would like to point out that the price of learning the Transcendental Meditation technique has been reduced. I believe that it is currently $1500 in the U.S. There are also special prices for families and students. It is possible to get a student loan to learn the TM technique and the monthly payments are probably less than what most people pay for their cell phone service.

yes, i tried "natural stress relief." it comes with a CD and a dinky, homemade looking self-taught meditation booklet that uses the mantra 'LAM," which is an old bija mantra intended for stimulating the lower chakras and getting your bowels moving properly (just Google it). it draws the energy downward. the NSR guys probably just picked this mantra at random, not even knowing what it was traditionally used for. then they stole some basic instructions from TM and voila: they have a meditation product to sell! i think they're only in it for the money. ironic, because they SAY they are doing this out of the benevolent desire to save people the money they would have to spend on TM.

so yes, i tried it. it works a little, if you can get the hang of it. but the mantra is not a mantra most conducive for transcending, apparently. i mean, after i saw what NSR was up to, i went ahead and learned TM. and THAT was the best investment i ever made. that was a year ago. TM mantra's are for transcending, and the personal instruction makes all the difference in the world. that's my experience.
