Does My Friend Have Schizofrania?

i have a friend who i have known for about 6 years, and she is very respectful and givving, she has an extremely funny sence of humour and common sence , shes actually very wise for her age, but she is very differant to most people her age ( shes 17) and ive never asked her anything like this because i could be very wrong , but she does have insomnia cause it takes her hours to get to sleep, and she has sleep paralysis, wich scares the crap out of her and when shes alone at night she gets very paranoid and thinks theres ghosts around her, and she told me she thought she heard a ghost say somthing to her when she was in bed one night and she just pretended she was asleep, she has an over active mind and thinks waay to much, shes anti social and isolated and doesnt like to meet new people, although shes very pretty shes never had a boyfriend because of this , she doesnt always pick up on social ques, shes sufferd from depression and doesnt have much confidance, i wouldnt say she has a shot temper but she deffanantly has anger management and when she stresses out heaps she will smash things and start shaking, this doesnt always happen but i was just curious could this be a mental disorder? if so what do you think? also she values animals lives more then human lives (wich i understand) shes athiest and doesnt believe in sex till marriage , maybe she just has a very strong personality?? what do you think

I don’t think that there is anything wrong with her mentally. It’s completely normal to experience sleep paralysis, but some people experience it more often than others. I have experienced it myself a few times and you can see/hear some pretty weird and scary things. It only happens because your mind still thinks that you are asleep and dreaming so it hasn’t activated the correct parts of your brain for being awake. You usually just have extreme paranoia, hallucinations, and you can’t move. People with sleeping disorders can have a higher chance of experiencing this because they often wake up while in REM sleep. Her encounter with a ghost talking to her may be due to a false awakening. People with sleeping disorders are also prone to these because they are so used to not being able to sleep that they sometimes dream that they are still in their bed trying to sleep.
Also, she may not like meeting new people and talking very often because she is an introvert. Introverts sometimes tend to over think things too. They are sometimes very shy and may have poor social skills. Her proneness to shake and such during highly stressful situations may be due to an anxiety disorder or she may just be prone to panic attacks. It could also be linked back to the insomnia and lack of proper sleep. When you are deprived of sleep it makes slightly stressful situations seem like they are extremely stressful and it just makes it impossible to control yourself.
I think that you are just thinking too much about it. There is probably nothing wrong with her, aside from insomnia. The only possible disorders that I would even consider are anxiety disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, or (highly unlikely) schizoid personality disorder. The schizotypal PD could explain her believing that ghosts are watching her and social issues.
    Hope this helps.

Only a psychologist can be sure. With that said, I don’t think it’s schizophrenia, but it could be problematic. With schizophrenia, audible hallucinations are much more prominent, and things like social integration become difficult if not impossible.

i think you should ask her parents about it, that is if they are the friendly people…
perhaps this website might help, it talks about diagnosis of the illness.http://www.schizophrenia.com/diag.php#di…

Strong personality hell, she sounds like she’s crazy as a loon and what has being an atheist got to do with waiting until your married to have sex? An atheist means you DON’T believe in God, so having sex before you are married should not be a problem.
Let’s see, she can’t sleep, sees ghosts, anti social, isolates herself, over active mind, depression, no confidence, needs anger management, starts shaking and loves animals more than humans.
Seriously, she needs to get professional help. It is so many things wrong I wouldn’t know where to start. Just take her to a mental help facility, if she will go, and let them sort out what is wrong with her. If she doesn’t want to go, leave her alone because she sounds like she can get very dangerous.
This is way to much for you to try and figure out.

    that sounds like me:D
i do about 80% of that stuff.
i have insomnia, sometimes i freak out and break stuff and completely over react, i cant say i hear ghosts…but then i wouldnt listen if i could. i used to suffer from depression, but i kinda got happy. i have ADHD and i think me cutting myself was just a cry out for attention. but then so is me answering your question.
i dont cut myself anymore, and i dont freak out very much anymore. maybe it’ll just ware off. i dont think she has a mental problem.
but i could be completely wrong.
