The court cannot sentence someone to a mental institution. The court CAN require mental health treatment (and cooperation with that treatment) as a condition of probation. You should be aware that his being suicidal greatly increases the likelihood that he will kill you. Suicidal ideation is a known risk factor in lethality assessment where domestic violence is concerned.
